Blue Sky Video Productions, located in Lake Bluff, recently won an Aegis Award for a 60-minute educational video produced for the Elmhurst Historical Museum. The Aegis Awards are a national competition recognizing professional excellence for video production.
“Some of the previous winners of the Aegis Awards include Microsoft, IBM, the Discovery Channel and Warner Bros.,” said Bruce Himmelblau, owner of Blue Sky Video Productions. “We’re thrilled to be included with such prestigious companies,” he stated.
Shot entirely in digital video (DVCAM) format, the “History at Home” production blends live talent and location footage with animation, archival photos, maps, slides and special effects.
Directed and edited by Sue Lawson, with Bruce Himmelblau as cameraperson, this production is slated to be used in the classroom as a companion piece to the curriculum on local history. Designed for 3rd through 5th grade students, this program is in keeping with the school district’s Best Current Practices.
The hour long program focuses on the history of Elmhurst. Beginning with the Native Americans and early landowners in addition to the founding families of the 1830’s, it also examines how transportation and modernization changed the face of the town in the early 20th century. The program then looks at the growth of local schools, explains how local government and businesses developed and even shows how entertainment has changed over the years.
“It really is a wonderful resource to get kids interested in their local history,” said Himmelblau. “I can easily see a program like this being developed by all local historical societies and museums.”
Blue Sky Video Productions is an award winning company, providing full service video, DVD, and CD-Rom production and post-production to small and mid-sized clients for over 15 years. “The focus of our business,” explained Lawson, “is producing and delivering high quality productions that assist our clients in effectively and dynamically communicating their message.”
Blue Sky Video Productions has also been honored to receive the 2002 Communicator Award of Distinction as well as a Finalist commendation for the 2002 DV Awards.
