WEVA NEWS MINUTE:
Manfrotto's Unique 'Fig Rig'
September 15, 2005
Sarasota, FL -
Videographers got their first up-close look at one of the world’s most
unusual-looking stabilizers when they “took the wheel” and went for a spin
with the Bogen/Manfrotto “Fig Rig” ($375 list) at the WEVA 15th Annual Wedding
& Event Video Expo 2005.
WEVA NEWS MINUTE producer Bruce Himmelblau mounted his camcorder to a Fig
Rig to capture this demonstration of the unit in action on the WEVA EXPO show
floor. Watch

Developed from a concept envisioned by film director Mike Figgis (“Leaving Las
Vegas”) the Fig Rig is a circular frame with a crossbar to mount most MiniDV
camcorders. The Fig Rig is designed to become part of the body to produce
smooth, steady traveling shots.
As the operator walks, his/her muscles and tendons absorb all the shocks,
transferring only fluid movements to the camera. The Fig Rig’s modular design
acts as a frame to mount all types of accessories, including zoom controllers,
mikes, mixers, lights, monitors, and more.
As there are no straps or harnesses attached to the Fig Rig, quick and wide
movements can be made within the same shot, from ground-level to overhead, in
one smooth movement.

Rig section of the Manfrotto website.
